These remittances are mainly sent by Lebanese migrants residing in North and South America, Australia, the Gulf countries, and Africa.
In a recent report, the World Bank estimated these remittances at 6.8 billion dollars in 2022 against 6.6 billion dollars in 2021. Lebanon thus ranks second in the world in terms of the contribution of expatriate remittances to GDP. Contributions amounting to about 38% of GDP.
