Sudan: The Teachers Committee decides to close all schools for the month of December

The Committee is calling for an increase in the minimum wage to 69,000 pounds (US$121), which equals a 6 to 8 increase of the current salaries. The Committee also calls for an increase in spending on education by 20% of the state budget, the payment of teachers’ allowances, and the adjustment of fixed-value allowances with the economic situation.

It is worth noting that the Committee published a study on September 20 stating that the teacher’s salary in Sudan covers only 13% of the basic living costs, as the average primary school teacher’s salary is 26,300 pounds per month ($46). It also showed that salaries range between 13,200 pounds, the lowest being $23 and the maximum $71.
