In a letter to the government, the council said it received threats for six days after the former president of the Medical Association was ousted by a decision of the organisation’s General Congress.
The Medical Council decided to suspend its work, close its premises, and called on the authorities to ensure the protection of all its employees.
Local media reported that health workers in Iraqi hospitals are also victims of several attacks and are not protected. According to official statistics, 72,000 Iraqi doctors have left the country for security reasons.
