The protesters called on the authorities to intervene in order to find the lost migrants, demanding that European Union (EU) states reveal the identities of detained migrants, release them, and hand over the bodies of those who have died to their families.
The families of the missing migrants also denounced the restrictive migration policies applied by the EU, recalling that they violate international conventions on human rights, including the right to mobility. The protesters announced their intention to take legal action to put an end to these “murderous” policies.
It is worth noting that this protest was supported by local NGOs who called on the government to put in place a new development model capable of effectively fighting youth unemployment.
