The statement issued that the 30 workers launched a protest last July to demand a change in work hours by 10 working days and 20 days of field leave instead of working 16 days and 14 days off, due to their work in the desert far from their cities, and subject to the security threat, and the payment of their financial dues.
The union affiliated with the General Federation of Trade Unions (GFTU) denounced the warning penalties on protestors because of its consequences for their financial entitlements, incentives, and future promotions. The company had taken a written pledge to these workers not to protest again.
