The Italian authorities said that the migrants, from different countries, were spotted on board a boat that was intercepted off the island.
The migrants were transferred to the Lampedusa Contrada Imbriacola Hotspot, which currently accommodates more than a thousand people, although its capacity does not exceed 350.
It is worth noting that an NGO recently announced that it had lost track of a small boat carrying 35 migrants in the central Mediterranean region as the vessel was having great difficulty keeping its balance not far from the Maltese areas.
