Sudan: Sudanese Sugar Company workers go on open strike

The workers of the company’s production units in different parts of Sudan are calling for the payment of June and July salaries as well as January and February grants of the current year.

The company’s administration ignored the strike warning sent to it by the Sudanese Sugar Company’s Central Demands Committee, which is made up of 13 members representing all the company’s factories and units and which, in the absence of a trade union and a tripartite committee, monitors the workers’ demands.

It is worth noting that the production of the Sudanese Sugar Company has deteriorated significantly over the past two years. Some observers see it as a “deliberate” deterioration as the authorities “almost withdrew from the public sector by selling factories to foreign and local investors.”
