In a statement, Tamkeen explained that under the Ministry of Labour’s instructions, which came into effect on 26 July, domestic labour recruitment offices now require that the applicant for recruitment of a domestic worker be a “head of family” or a person with medical certificates proving their need for specific assistance. These requirements deprive many people of the opportunity to recruit domestic workers, Tamkeen said.
The statement stressed that women will be the most affected by this decision as they are usually the ones who apply for recruitment. This worsens, according to the same source, the inequality between men and women, especially since the latter are rarely recognised as “heads of the family.”
Tamkeen called on the Ministry to review its decision and the definition of “head of family” so that women can be included.
