Thousands gathered in response to the call of the Southern Saharan Communities Coalition, backed by Moroccan human rights organizations, to denounce “the immigration policies embodied in police brutality and the militarization of borders.”
The coalition stressed “the necessity of conducting an independent investigation so that responsibilities can be held” in the tragic death of the migrants.
During the protests in front of the Moroccan Parliament, human rights activists called for “identifying the identities of the victims” and informing their families, calling on their countries’ diplomats in Morocco to contribute to it.
Human rights organizations defend the right of migrants as asylum seekers seeking a better life to escape conditions of war, famine, or poverty.
