Within the framework of trade union coordination, a joint statement of the Democratic Confederation of Labour (CDT), the Democratic Federation of Labour (FDT), and the Democratic Organization announced the strike, explaining that it came in protest against “the deteriorating living conditions of the working class and the government decisions on the successive increases in the prices of basic materials and fuels in light of the continuing repercussions of the pandemic and the effects of drought.”
The three trade union organizations demanded that the government approve a real increase in wages and pensions in line with inflation rates and “ensure that all citizens benefit from their national wealth and achieve social justice.”
