Iraq: Violations against women and children in brick and leather factories

The union official added that “the brick factories work more than 10 hours, at a time that is supposed to be only 8 hours, including time for a break.”

He pointed out that similar abuses against working women and children are also recorded in leather factories, hotels, cafes, companies in the private sector, and tourism companies. Some of them even work 14 hours a day and get paid only for work of8 hours, taking advantage of the need for money and the difficult living conditions of the workers.

The union official criticized the weakness of government and the inadequacy of inspection committee, compared to the large number of private sector institutions.
