The protesters are daily-wage workers demand permanent contracts. The government had promised to do so after two years of work in the company. However, the parliament cancelled the bill. Protestors threatened to paralyze the movement in the entire Basra province.
In the same context, contractual workers in the Dhi Qar governorate closed the oil company in the governorate, and cut off the road leading to it for the same reason.
