The report for the Nigerian Premium Times website cited a woman’s testimony before the Federal Supreme Court in Ibadan, Nigeria, stating that she was a victim of human trafficking and prostitution in Libya.
The testimony came within the framework of a case brought by the Nigerian National Agency for the Prohibition of Human Trafficking against a woman, who convinced the victim that she will reach Europe safely via Cairo in exchange for money. The woman found herself in Tripoli, a victim of harassment from other people, and then forced into the sex trade to pay off her debts. The victim was captured by the Libyan authorities and then deported to Nigeria in April 2017.
