Jordan: Tamkeen for Legal Aid and Human Rights releases new report on the impact of non-compliance with occupational health and safety measures

The report revealed that, according to official data, 4 workers died and 76 workers were injured in 8 accidents due to the lack of these measures. These accidents, which are expected to be much higher, have been recorded since the beginning of the year and up to 15 April.

Tamkeen explained that it is difficult to identify the direct and indirect costs of work accidents in Jordan, but stated that the estimates reach more than 4.2% of GDP or more than one and a quarter billion Jordanian dinars.

The centre has called for employers and workers to be aware of this issue, especially in the sectors most exposed to accidents such as industry, construction, agriculture, hotels, and restaurants. Sectors in which workers need to be protected against the various risks to which they are exposed on a daily basis were stressed. Tamkeen also called for a legislative review to update the texts in force so that they are effective in protecting workers.
