Lebanon: The Syndicate of Ogero Telecom Workers threatens to go on an open strike

The warning was contained in the statement of the Executive Council of the Syndicate following its meeting on April 05, 2022, which also included directives for workers, in the event of an open strike, to seize completely all work and all services.

It is worth noting that the union gave the authorities a last chance after the strike launched by the employees of the institution on March 8 to demand the amendment of Article 49 of the Telecommunications Law No. 431 on the conditions of the categories of workers employed by the Ministry of Communications and Ogero. It impacts the fate of about 2,500 families. The syndicate, also, demands the provision of financial resources necessary to run the institution. Finally, the strike expresses the workers’ rejection of the Ministry of Finance’s decision to reduce salaries and wages appropriations from previous years.
