Sudan: Teachers protest for the third week in a row

The Teachers’ Committee mentioned in this context that “the strike declared on 10 March aims to restore the rights of teachers who have given the authorities enough time to respond to their urgent demands.”

The Committee recalled that the teachers are demanding an increase in the minimum wage to 24,000 pounds ($50) instead of the 12,000 pounds ($25) approved by the 2020 state budget, explaining that the increase provided by the authorities does not allow families to meet their daily needs. The committee also called for all grants to be included in the new salary scale.

It is worth noting that the authorities continue to ignore the teachers’ demands despite the duration and scale of their strike.
