Journalists accuse the Social Security Corporation, which owns most of the newspaper’s shares and controls its board of directors, of mismanagement, by appointing general managers who do not have adequate experience and boards of directors that have worsened the newspaper’s financial crisis.
The Jordanian Journalists Syndicate has adopted the demands of journalists and employees of Al Ra’i newspaper, and demanded their return and “the removal of all legal consequences of dismissal and punishment decisions.” Anthony Pelangi, Secretary-General of the International Federation of Journalists, also stressed the right of workers to protest against the poor conditions in the newspaper, calling for the return of the arbitrarily dismissed employees to their posts.
