Lebanon: Ministry of Labour issues new decision to allow Palestinian refugees previously prevented jobs

After being prevented from working in more than 70 professions, the Lebanese Minister of Labour issued a decision that allows Palestinian refugees to have certain jobs that were restricted to Lebanese citizens.

The statement issues that “the decision was taken based on the requirements of the public interest and the economic conditions that necessitated reviewing the list of jobs restricted to Lebanese citizens,” and that “excludes Palestinians born in Lebanon and registered in the Lebanese territories and records of the Lebanese Ministry of Interior and Municipalities to these jobs.”

In article 2, Palestinians born on Lebanese territory and officially registered in the records of the Lebanese Ministry of Interior and Municipalities and foreigners whose mothers are, also, Lebanese or married to a Lebanese woman are excluded from the decision.

These jobs include law, engineering, medicine, pharmacy, nursing, and typography.
