The General Trade Union of Workers in the Oil and Gas Sector followed with great interest the case of the 600 workers in the Oil Lines Company of the Ministry of Oil.
It has been decided that the workers will be dismissed. The workers’ brothers had a peaceful protest for a short period of time. The protestors met officials in the airline who promised to solve their case. The trade union, also, submitted an official memorandum to the Minister of Oil on this issue.
“We were surprised that the security services attacked the workers’ brothers who protested today, without any justification. Some of them were injured and hospitalized. The trade union calls on the authorities to solve the issue of these workers in a manner that guarantees their rights. We also call on the Governor of Basra and prevent the security authorities to stop attacking these workers. We ask all Iraqi, Arab and international unions to denounce these hostile acts against the General Union of Workers in the Oil and Gas Sector.”
