After the international conference on UNRWA, co-chaired by Jordan and Sweden and with the participation of 60 countries and international organizations including the United States that resumed its support to the organization after three years, all UNRWA schools in Gaza have been on strike.
In 2021, UNRWA has been having a financial deficit estimated at $100 million. The organization is asking for support for the coming years to protect the institution and keep it going.
The UNRWA union warns against violating the workers’ rights. Solving the crisis should not be at the expense of the workers’ rights.
The UNRWA union demands allowing permanent appointment of refugee children in all sectors. They, also, demanded the payment of their salaries on the 11th and 12th of every month without a delay, the implementation of the Beirut Conference decisions on the end of service, the provident fund, the cancellation of unpaid exceptional leave, and the return of the annual allowance, that has been frozen since last March, with retroactive effect.
More protest will be held in the coming days if their demands will not be met.
