Tunisia: Phosphate mine workers threaten to interrupt rail traffic

The workers of the phosphate mines of Meknassi in the governorate of Sidi Bouzid, have threatened to interrupt trains and trucks transporting phosphate.

 

In a letter sent on 17 August to the Ministry of Energy and Mines and Gafsa Phosphate Company, the workers called on officials to study their demands.

 

The workers demand the reopening of the mine, permanent contracts for 158 workers, and the payment of salaries for the transitional period from 27 May to 1 January 2022.
