A report in Al-Wafd newspaper showed that 14,000 work accidents take place every year in Egypt, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS). The accidents are mainly due to the lack of occupational health and safety measures.
The industrial field has the largest rate of work accidents, followed by the field of construction, especially in the light of the absence of occupational health and safety measures in the work site. Work accidents are also frequent in factories and small bakeries in residential apartments or in narrow slum areas.
CAPMAS revealed that the number of public and private enterprises (more than 4 million) exceeds the number of inspectors (600 inspectors in the Ministry of Manpower and only 450 field inspectors).
Occupational safety experts in Egypt stress prioritizing occupational health and safety.
