Egypt: LORD International forces workers to resign

The Centre for Trade Union & Workers’ Services (CTUWS) denounced the measures that LORD International company in Alexandria is undertaking against workers.

The administration suspended 10 workers who were investigated and suspended on charges of illegal protests and inciting to them which presumably harmed the company’s financial interests. They were given the option of resigning for a weak compensation (18,000 pounds for 23 years of service, 15,000 pounds for 20 years of service, 8000 pounds for 13 years of service) or final dismissal without any compensation.

It is worth noting that company’s administration dismissed 64 workers and referred 83 others to investigation, on charges of protests on July 26, to demand a salary increase based on the minimum wage of 2,400 pounds, allow permanent contracts, and increase the grants. The company refused negotiations.
