Egypt: LORD International company’s workers go on strike

The Centre for Trade Union and Workers’ Services (CTUWS) announced its support for the demands of about 2,000 workers in the LORD International company including negotiating a salary increase. LORD is a company specialized in producing lines and manufacturing machine spare parts.

The company’s first and second shift workers have been protesting since July 26th against the company’s indifference to their demands. The administration prevented the third shift workers group from joining the strike by closing the company’s gates and having a security guard.

The workers are demanding an increase in their salaries, and considering the minimum wage of 2,400 pounds. The average wage for workers who have worked for ten years in the company is approximately 2,000 pounds.

Temporary workers, who make the majority in the company, demand permanent work contracts. The company’s indifference led the workers to protest.
