On July 26, the Tunisia General Federation of Banks and Financial Institutions (FGBEF), affiliated with the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), and Tunisian Professional Association of Banks and Financial Institutions signed an agreement to raise the basic wage and contractual grants for employees of banks and financial institutions by 5.3% of the total wages for the year 2020 and by 6.7%, for 2021.
The agreement included an increase in the retirement grant to 12 monthly salaries, and an amendment to the pensions of retired employees of banking and financial institutions involved in the National Retirement and Social Security Fund.
Assistant workers would be assigned in stages, no later than the end of 2023. This decision will be applied to institutions that have a large number of these workers.
It is worth noting that banks and financial institutions in Tunisia launched a strike on July 5-6, after the failure of negotiations on the demands of workers in the sector.
