In July 2021, the Parliament approved a bill that restricts some jobs in the private sector to Bahraini citizens only.
The government’s Job Market Regulatory Authority had reservations about the bill and addressed the difficulty of its implementation in practice, saying that a previous experience in restricting a number of professions to Bahraini citizens had proven to be a failure and caused many problems in the job market.
The bill is proposed as one of the solutions to combat unemployment in the country. In this regard, the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions announced that there are 15,000 job seekers in various fields and levels.
