Tunisia: Strike in banks and financial institutions

The General Federation of Banks, Insurance, and Financial Institutions in Tunisia decided to go on strike on the 5th and 6th of July, to protest against the ineffective negotiations over the salary increase of employees in the banking sector.

In a statement issued on June 22nd, the federation stated that the Professional Association of Banks representing financial institutions refused to continue the negotiations and repudiated previous pledges it had signed with trade unions.

The federation demands an increase in salaries of no less than 7.5% and an improvement in the professional status of contracted employees.
