A report by the Labour House for Studies and Research, on the occasion of the World Day Against Child Labour, stated that the number of working children in Jordan makes 100,000, an increase of 25% compared to the last statistics conducted in 2016.
The report argued that the increase in child labour could be due to the increase in unemployment (24.7%), the high poverty rate, and the lack of social protections, forcing families to opt for child labour.
The report, also, warned that about 45,000 of them are forced to work in dangerous and risky jobs according to international labour standards.
The Labour House, therefore, called for revising and developing social policies to fight this phenomenon. It, also, called for generalizing social security to everyone.
