Qatar: Human Rights Organizations Condemn the Arrest of a Human Rights Activist

A group of human rights organizations have expressed their concern over the disappearance of blogger and human rights activist Malcolm Bedale during the past week. The organizations issued a joint statement, calling on the Qatari authorities to disclose his location and release him.

Malcolm Bedale is a Kenyan immigrant working in Qatar as a security guard. He is a blogger and writer. His reports revealed the difficult conditions of migrant workers and the risks and violations they are exposed to.

Human rights organizations stated that Malcolm Bedale was taken from his residence on May 4th by the State Security Service, and his location is unknown. They, also, explained that, a week before his arrest, he had submitted to civil society organizations and trade unions a report on the human rights situation of migrant workers.

An official Qatari source stated that authorities had detained a Kenyan citizen and were interrogating him for violating security laws and regulations.
