Tunisia: Ratifying bill on domestic work

On May 24, 2021, the Parliament’s Committee on Women, Family, Childhood, Youth, and the Elderly Affairs approved a bill regulating domestic work.

A media statement to Parliament mentioned the proposals that were added to this project, including preventing landlords from using recording cameras and other means of monitoring at the work site, out of respect for the privacy of the worker or domestic worker. Inspectors of work and supervisors of the National Social Security Fund are prevented from entering the workplace without prior notification and approval of the employer.

The Parliamentary Committee also suggested that the landlord should not oblige the domestic worker to stay at the work site during his daily rest period.
