Morocco: Two Workers Dismissed for Trade Union Activities

On May 6, 2021, the Moroccan Syndicate of Textiles and Garments of the Moroccan Workers’ Union organized a strike in front of the headquarters of the SkyWash laundry company that works with Zara, a subsidiary of INDEX, to denounce the decision of the arbitrarily dismissal of 33 workers.

 

A trade union source stated that the decision is mainly due to forming an office in the UMT to demand the rights of the company’s 200 workers.

 

The workers complain that the company has violated their rights; does not respect minimum wage; does not report all periods of work to Social Security; does not provide health insurance; and does not respect trade union work.

 

A meeting has been scheduled in the labour inspectorate, on May 10, to address the problem.
