Morocco: $ 2.15 Billion to Support Workers Affected by COVID-19

On the occasion of the International Workers’ Day, the Moroccan Minister of Employment and Professional Integration stated that the government disbursed nearly $ 2.15 billion between March 2020 and March 2021 to support workers affected by COVID-19.

He explained that 1,111,096 workers, registered in the National Social Security Fund, were supported with more than $ 620 million. While the 5.5 million workers employed in the informal sector were supported with a total amount exceeding $ 1.6 billion.

The same source indicated that the government continued disbursing salary increases. This commitment falls within the social agreement between the government and the unions concluded in April 2019, and extends for three years. It is worth noting that the financial obligations of the Moroccan government in this agreement amounted to 14.25 billion dirhams, equivalent to $ 1.425 billion.
