Tunisia: A Strike in the Oil Companies of Skhira Paralyses Fuel Supply

The workers of the fuel storage company in Skhira (TANKMED), the pipeline transport company in the Sahara (TRAPSA), and the national oil distribution company AGIL in the region of Skhira announced a strike on 23 April to protest against the decision to sell shares in the capital of TANKMED to a foreign company.

A foreign company offered its shares, which represent 25% of TANKMED’s capital, for sale.

The General Federation of Petroleum and Chemicals denounced the government’s decision to refuse to support the bids of TRAPSA and AGIL for the purchase of shares in TANKMED by foreign companies, while accepting a suspicious bid from an Italian company.

A trade union official from the Sfax Federation branch denounced the government’s intention to sell off a profitable public company while preventing other national companies from buying up the shares.
