An official Saudi source declared that authorities have decided to abolish the kafala system for foreigners in more than 20 professions.
The same source revealed that the Saudi government has already cancelled the kafala system in various trades such as the positions of executive director, sales director, accountant, executive secretary, administrative director, accounting director, civil engineer, engineer structures, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, and the medical professions.
He added that the authorities have set the criteria for recruiting foreign workers without referring to the “kafil” agreement. The official explained that through these decisions, foreigners active in the above-mentioned trades can now change employer and travel without needing authorization, in accordance with Saudi law.
