ILO: COVID-19 Caused the Loss of 255 Million Jobs in 2020

A report of the International Labour Organization (ILO), published on January 25, 2021, indicated that the jobs sector lost the equivalent of 255 million jobs in 2020.

The report, also, mentioned that the number of jobs lost last year due to the pandemic reached 4 times the number of jobs lost in the global financial crisis of 2009.

The Director-General of ILO added that this crisis is the most severe crisis in the jobs sector since the 1930sGreat Depression, which was divided between reducing working hours and losing jobs.

Most of the people who lost their jobs were working in restaurants, bars, shops, hotels and other services that depend on direct interaction. Also, women and youth were the two groups affected the most by the pandemic.
