Protesting workers, unemployed, and representatives of the civil society gathered at the Regional Workers’ Union (URT) office in Gafsa before they marched to the governorate’s headquarters.
In Kairouan, after being called by the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), protesters called on the government to implement around 80 projects decided in favour of the region by closed ministerial councils held in 2015 and 2017.
After the Kamour protests, strikes started to take place in other regions in Tunisia including Béja, Kef, Kairouan, and Tataouine. To put an end to the Kamour protests, the government promised to create new job opportunities to the region’s population in Tataouine, in the South of the country. Protestors, therefore, allowed petrol companies to resume their activities.
