Yemeni activists and academics rejected the quota principle in the establishing of the new government and called for the participation of women and youth.
In a text published on social networks, academics and activists explained that a government without women and youth would be considered illegitimate, saying they will refuse any formation that is composed of men representing the stakeholders in the Yemeni conflict and that does not respect the agreements and outcomes of the national dialogue.
This text was published a few days after the end of the international campaign of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence of the United Nations system that took place from November 25 to December 10.
During their participation in the campaign, Yemeni women called for a constitutional review to address the shortcomings of the draft constitution. The women stressed the importance of unifying the voices of feminist activists in order to achieve a constitution based on equality and that respects gender away from discrimination and exclusion.
A government source revealed the names of the new formation. According to the same source, the government, whose composition will soon be revealed, has excluded women and youth.
