Morocco: Regional offices of National Education Union protest against supervisory ministry

The offices of the National Education Union of the Democratic  Labour Confederation (CDT) continue their protests in the east of the country against the application of the ministerial decree on the deduction of points, on the basis of which promotions are calculated, from teachers who participated in strikes.

In parallel with the 'Dignity' sit-in in the city of Bouarfa, the union offices in Oujda, Taourirt, Jerada, Berkane, Talsinnt and eastern cities organised sit-ins to protest against the ministerial decree, which is described as a violation of the right to strike.

The union's regional office in Bouarfa issued a statement denouncing the violation of the right to strike guaranteed by the Moroccan Constitution and by all international conventions. The office, which began an open sit-in in a night shelter, rejected the deduction of points against candidates for promotion in 2019 and claimed it was a violation of the strikers' wages.

For its part, the National Education Union announced its intention to confront the Ministry and its practices that violate the fair and legitimate demands of teachers.

It should be recalled that the education unions considered that the measure taken by the supervisory ministry represents a repression against the right to strike and against trade union freedoms.
