During a meeting with a delegation from the United Nations (UN) In Beirut, the Honorary Consul of Nepal Muhammad Ghazil Ali stressed the need for the signing of an employment contract between the employer and the employee that is recognized by the responsible ministries before the granting of a work permit to Nepalese domestic workers so that they know all the details of their professional situation before going to Lebanon. The consul recalled that the signing of the contract after the worker’s arrival in Lebanon represents a violation of his rights.
Muhammad Ghazil Ali said in this context that Nepal will no longer send its workers before the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Lebanon concerning the affairs of domestic workers. The consul assured that this memorandum of understanding has been ready for two years and that it is the subject of internal discussions between the various ministries while Lebanon must finalize the signature of such documents in order to fight against the arrivals of workers irregular on its territory.
For its part, the UN delegation supported the reasoning of the Consul of Nepal and invited him to organize other meetings during which ideas will be developed in order to better serve the interests of Nepalese nationals, foreign workers and Lebanese citizens.
