On Friday, the Human Rights Committee in Libya condemned the heinous crimes and serious violations of sub-Saharan migrants. Crimes filmed and broadcast on social networks by activists.
In a statement published on his official Facebook page, the Human Rights Committee explained that organized crime mafias and human traffickers are committing these crimes in order to blackmail migrant families and obtain money for their release. In the same statement, the organisation condemned EU policies that intercept migrants at sea and send them back to Libya, where they are exposed to such crimes.
The Committee affirmed that the States of the European Union, and especially Italy, are morally, humanly and legally responsible for the crimes suffered by sub-Saharan migrants and refugees; crimes caused directly by European unilateral migration policies.
