The general management of the National Company of the household appliance industries (ENIEM) in Tizi-Ouzou announced a technical stoppage as of December 1, putting its 1,700 workers on technical leave.
Dozens of workers gathered in front of the factory and organized a march to the headquarters of the wilaya where they called on the authorities to intervene to save their jobs.
The factory is facing a major financial crisis that has been going on for years. Last February, the company had suspended production before benefiting from a rescue plan that allowed it to maintain production until last November.
