In a statement issued on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions stressed the importance of ensuring a safe working environment for women and called on the government to ratify international convention number 190 on violence and harassment in the world of work.
The President of the Federation, in this context, Mazen Maaitah said that the trade union movement in Jordan is participating with the rest of the world in the international campaign of 16 days of activism against gender-based violence whose objective is to raise public awareness about violence against women.
The official added that the General Federation is also participating in a campaign supported by the ActionAid organization. Launched last year, this campaign aims to eradicate violence against women in the world of work by developing legal tools so that victims can access justice and win their cases. Mazen Maaitah explained that the campaign was put in place following a study published by ActionAid entitled “Inaccessible Justice for Women and Girls Victims of Violence in the Workplace / Study of Violence and Harassment in the Workplace”.
