Lebanon: FENASOL negotiates compensation for workers affected by the pandemic

In a statement, the National Federation of Workers' and Employees' Unions in Lebanon (FENASOL) announced that its president, Castro Abdallah, met with outgoing Labour Minister Lamia Yammine to discuss the impacts of the pandemic on citizens, workers and the most vulnerable classes.

In the same statement, FENASOL explained that as part of its monitoring of workers' affairs in light of the socio-economic crisis and the expansion of the pandemic, Castro Abdallah discussed with the minister the impact of general health containment on workers and low-income people who also face inflation and rising food prices.

The trade union centre pointed out that its president had raised the issue of compensation for workers and the unemployed and recalled that FENASOL had already submitted nominal lists of those who should be compensated because of the cessation of their activities. The press release explained that the majority of these workers are active in construction, liberal trades, catering, hospitality, sewing, carpentry etc.
