The Bahrain Public Prosecutor’s Office convened the Technical Engineer and the Safety and Security Officer of the Ministry of Public Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning to discuss the death of three workers who had been asphyxiated in a pit.
According to officials, the company engineer responsible for the project, one of the three victims, had informed the ministry of his intention to work in a specific location at a specific time. After he provided those details, the department gave him the authority to proceed with the necessary work. Once the work was completed, without incident, the engineer travelled with the other two workers to another location where the accident occurred. This move was not reported to the department. The statements of the Technical Engineer and the Safety and Security Officer at the Ministry of Public Works have been confirmed by the Company Security Officer in charge of the project.
Following this accident, the public prosecutor’s office accredited an occupational health and safety expert and commissioned him to prepare a report on the employer’s compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
