The Executive Board of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) has issued a statement expressing some requests and criticisms regarding the country’s epidemiological situation. Faced with the rise in new cases and deaths caused by Covid-19 and after two weeks of the announcement of new preventive measures decided by the government, the executive office of the trade union center, meeting on November 11, calls for the following:
1. The application of all preventive measures – curfews, working hours, compulsory wearing of masks in public places, etc. – by all workers in the face of the lack of aid for hospitals and health facilities.
2. Support academic and regional hospitals to accommodate and care for all patients.
3. Increase the control of private clinics and strictly apply the law to offenders who exploit the epidemic context for the enrichment and extortion of citizens.
4. Support those most affected by government decisions, such as tourism agents and private sector employees.
5. Call on the private sector to provide the means of protection to their employees, namely respirator masks and water-alcohol gels for hand disinfection.
