Palestine: ILO Announces the Launching of a Program in Support of the Palestinian Cooperative Work Sector

The International Labor Organization (ILO), in cooperation with the Italian government, announced the launching of an innovative program for the development of the cooperative work sector in Palestine.

The program will be including the support for Palestinian cooperatives and social projects with the aim of achieving sustainable development in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

The Italian Development Cooperation Agency will finance the program for a period of three years, with the aim of strengthening the Palestinian cooperative sector as well as consolidating the basic principles of social entrepreneurship.

The program will seek to enhance job opportunities and livelihoods for Palestinian men and women, by creating a supportive and stimulating institutional and organizational environment for the establishment of independent cooperatives.

The same program will also provide technical support to the Cooperative Work Authority and its branches, including support for the Cooperative Development Institute and the Cooperatives Development Fund.

The aim is to facilitate, as well, the implementation of organizational and support functions to create an environment that is conducive to the institutionalization of cooperatives and to achieve their growth and prosperity while preserving their independence.
