Morocco: In Response to the Call of the Health Syndicate of the Moroccan Labor Union, Strong Participation Rate at Demonstrations

Thousands of workers in the health sector in about 100 work sites in Morocco participated in the protest that was called for by the National Health Syndicate, affiliated with the Moroccan Labor Union.

Last Tuesday, the protests included most of the health institutions and departments to express rejection of the methodology of the Minister of Health’s handling of their legitimate demands and to emphasize the independence of the union decision in a clear response to the unilateral decision taken by the Minister to cancel annual holidays.

During the demonstrations, multiple demands were raised mainly related to classifying COVID-19 patients among health workers as victims of work accidents, classifying COVID-19 as an occupational disease, renewing the demand to provide protection and the necessary protective supplies for health personnel.

Workers also called for the empowerment of workers in the COVID-19 service and enabling them with quarantine, accommodation, nutrition and transportation,

Demands also included the issuance of real compensation for all health workers, like most countries, with positive discrimination for workers in COVID-19 cells and services, and the rejection of meager compensation that does not match the size of the health workers’ sacrifices.

The National Health Syndicate stressed that it has drawn up an up-and-coming struggle program to protect the rights of its affiliates before any unilateral decisions are taken.
