According to data published by the Moroccan news website Hespress, some major companies in Tangiers refused to COVID-19 tests for dozens of its workers despite confirming that some of them were infected, which caused a widespread wave of discontent among the unions in the region
Professional sources told the Moroccan website that an international company in Tangier-Med port “evaded” conducting tests for its workers, despite the confirmation of the health authorities in Tangiers that workers in one of the companies had contracted COVID-19.
The same sources feared the spread of the pandemic in some companies that do not conduct medical tests periodically or whenever new cases are confirmed, especially since more than 90 % of the infections are without symptoms, which means that even high temperature detection devices cannot detect signs of COVID-19.
The Moroccan Minister of Health had put the responsibility for the outbreak of occupational COVID-19 clusters to the owners of factories and companies, stressing that the responsibility is for the companies to protect their workers, even if the pandemic came from outside the industrial and production units.
