After some activists circulated a photograph of an exhausted worker sleeping on the sidewalk in a sad scene, Saudi authorities took punitive measures against a contracting company for committing a grave breach of the rights of one of its workers.
One Twitter user specifically had posted pictures of a worker sleeping on the sidewalk next to one of the electricity generators, commenting on the pictures saying that: “He sleeps on the sidewalk at a time when it is difficult for us to sit without air conditioners; have fear from God”. This post has spread widely on Saudi social media pages.
The Ministry had announced a follow-up of the worker’s story after getting the necessary statements, and having officially registered a violation against the facility. Necessary measures had been taken against the facility, putting obligations to provide the worker with a living place in accordance with the approved work measures.
