Collective Agreement to Lay off 400 of Air France Pilots

The French airline “Air France” and the Pilots Union in France have reached a collective agreement allowing the early retirement of the company’s pilots with the aim of reducing the cost of wages for the airline’s employees in light of the repercussions of COVID-19 pandemic, which caused a severe blow to the aviation industry in the world.

According to a statement issued by the union on Monday, 400 pilots will be let go from the company by the end of August.

The union added that the pilots of “Air France” and “Transavia France” “will fully take part of the necessary efforts to confront this exceptional and continuous crisis that we are going through”.

Bloomberg News reported that the union noted that the wages of “Air France” and “Transavia” pilots will be linked to the actual activity of the company’s fleet, with wages being cut since last April by a percentage estimated between 25 % and 40% of their pre-crisis levels.

Pilots’ union said that the pilot wage cut would save Air France about 300 million Euros a year.
